Yamaha YFM400FAT Kodiak 400 2005 Owner's Manual

To change the oil, ensure the engine is warm, place the ATV on a level surface, remove the drain plug, and let the oil drain completely. Replace the drain plug and fill with the recommended oil type and quantity specified in your user manual.
The recommended oil type is 10W-40 for the Yamaha YFM400FAT Kodiak 400 2005. Make sure to use oil that meets or exceeds the API service classification SG or higher.
Check the battery for charge and connections for corrosion. Ensure the fuel is fresh and the fuel valve is on. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, and replace if necessary.
The correct tire pressure for the front tires is 4.4 psi and for the rear tires is 3.6 psi. Always check tire pressure when the tires are cold.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the air filter, and wash it gently with mild soap and water. Let it dry completely before applying air filter oil and reinstalling it.
If your Kodiak 400 overheats, turn off the engine and let it cool. Check the coolant level and ensure the radiator is clean. Inspect hoses for leaks or blockages.
It is recommended to inspect and potentially replace the spark plug every 6 months or 4,000 miles, whichever comes first, for optimal performance.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, inspecting brakes, cleaning the air filter, checking tire pressure, and inspecting the drive chain for proper tension and lubrication.
To adjust the drive chain, loosen the axle nut, turn the adjuster bolts to achieve the correct tension, and tighten the axle nut after ensuring proper chain slack. Refer to the owner's manual for specific slack measurements.
Unusual noises may be due to loose components, low oil levels, or worn parts. Check for loose bolts and ensure the oil is at the correct level. If the noise persists, consult a professional mechanic.
