The recommended maintenance schedule includes checking the air filter and oil level every ride, changing the transmission oil every 10 hours, and inspecting the brake system and tires every month.
Check the fuel supply, spark plug condition, and ensure the kill switch is in the correct position. Also, inspect the carburetor for clogs and confirm the battery is charged.
Use a high-quality two-stroke motorcycle oil. Yamaha recommends Yamalube 2-R or equivalent for optimal performance and engine protection.
To adjust the chain tension, loosen the axle nut, adjust the chain adjusters evenly on both sides, and ensure the chain has about 30-40mm of slack. Tighten the axle nut securely after adjustment.
Common brake issues include squeaking and reduced stopping power. Ensure the brake pads are not worn out and clean the rotors. Bleeding the brake lines may also be necessary to remove air bubbles.
Adjust the suspension settings according to your weight and riding style. Consider upgrading the springs or revalving the suspension if necessary. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and lubricating, is also essential.
Ensure the radiator is clean and not clogged. Check the coolant level and the condition of the hoses and water pump. Avoid riding at low speeds for extended periods to prevent overheating.
Remove the spark plug cap, use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug, and replace it with a new one of the correct specification. Ensure it is properly gapped and tightened to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
Signs include slipping under load, a spongy clutch lever, or difficulty in shifting gears. Inspect the clutch plates for wear and replace if necessary. Adjust the clutch cable for proper free play.
Thoroughly clean the bike, lubricate all moving parts, drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer, disconnect the battery, and store it in a dry, temperature-controlled environment. Cover the bike to protect it from dust and moisture.
