The Yamaha YFZ450R 2012 is recommended to use Yamalube 4-Stroke 10W-40 or an equivalent high-quality motor oil that meets or exceeds the specifications set in the owner’s manual.
It is recommended to change the oil every 20 hours of ride time or every 6 months, whichever comes first. However, frequent riders or those riding in extreme conditions may need to change the oil more often.
The recommended tire pressure for the front tires is 5 psi and for the rear tires is 5 psi. Always refer to the owner’s manual or the tire sidewall for the most accurate information.
If your YFZ450R 2012 is having starting issues, check the battery for charge, ensure the fuel valve is on, inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling, and verify that the engine stop switch is in the 'run' position.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, inspecting the air filter and replacing as needed, lubricating the chain, checking tire pressure, and inspecting brakes and brake fluid.
To adjust the chain tension, loosen the axle nut and then use the adjuster bolts to achieve the correct tension, which should allow about 1.2-1.6 inches of slack. Retighten the axle nut once adjusted.
If the YFZ450R 2012 overheats, stop the engine and let it cool down. Check the coolant level and inspect for leaks. Ensure the radiator is not obstructed and that the fan is functioning properly.
Performance can be improved by installing a high-performance exhaust system, upgrading the air filter to a high-flow version, and re-jetting the carburetor for optimal fuel delivery. Consider professional tuning as well.
Common electrical issues include loose connections, blown fuses, and battery problems. Solutions involve checking and tightening all connections, replacing fuses, and ensuring the battery is fully charged and in good condition.
To store the YFZ450R 2012 for winter, clean it thoroughly, change the oil, add fuel stabilizer, disconnect the battery, and store it in a dry, covered location. Elevate the ATV to prevent tire deformation, if possible.
