For optimal performance, use a high-quality 2-stroke oil designed for air-cooled engines. Yamaha's own 2-stroke oil is recommended for the best results.
The air filter should be inspected and cleaned every 20 hours of riding, or more frequently if you ride in dusty conditions.
Common starting issues often relate to spark plugs, fuel system, or carburetor problems. Ensure the spark plug is clean and properly gapped, check for fuel delivery, and clean the carburetor if necessary.
To adjust the chain tension, loosen the rear axle nut, adjust the chain adjusters evenly on both sides, then retighten the axle nut ensuring there is about 1 inch of slack in the chain.
The recommended tire pressure for the front tires is 3.5 psi and for the rear tires is 2.5 psi. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
Performance can be improved by upgrading the exhaust system, installing a performance air filter, and properly tuning the carburetor. Ensure any modifications are compatible and professionally installed.
Regular maintenance should include checking and replacing the spark plug, cleaning the air filter, adjusting the chain, checking tire pressure, and inspecting the brakes and suspension.
Excessive smoke can be caused by using too much oil in the fuel mixture, burning of residual oil in the exhaust, or engine wear. Verify the oil-to-fuel ratio and inspect the exhaust and engine components.
To bleed the brakes, attach a clear tube to the bleeder valve, pump the brake lever a few times, hold it, then open the valve to release air and fluid. Repeat until no air bubbles are visible in the fluid.
For off-season storage, clean the ATV thoroughly, change the oil, add a fuel stabilizer, disconnect the battery, and store it in a dry place. Cover the ATV to protect it from dust and dirt.
