Routine maintenance should be performed every 20 hours of operation or once a month, whichever comes first. This includes checking the oil level, air filter, and inspecting the brakes and tires.
Yamaha recommends using Yamalube 4-Stroke All Purpose Oil 10W-40 or an equivalent oil that meets or exceeds the JASO MA standard.
To adjust the chain tension, first, loosen the rear axle nut. Then, turn the chain adjuster bolts equally on both sides until the desired tension is achieved, and finally, retighten the axle nut.
If your Raptor won't start, check the battery connections, ensure the fuel valve is on, and inspect the spark plug for fouling. Also, make sure the engine stop switch is in the "run" position.
To improve fuel efficiency, perform regular maintenance, ensure the tire pressure is correct, avoid aggressive driving, and make sure the air filter is clean.
The recommended tire pressure for the front tires is 5 psi and for the rear tires is 5 psi. Always check the tire pressure when they are cold.
To check the brake fluid level, locate the brake fluid reservoir, clean the area around the cap, remove the cap, and ensure the fluid is between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.
Symptoms of a clogged air filter include reduced engine performance, poor acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and black smoke from the exhaust.
To prevent overheating, regularly check the coolant level, ensure the radiator fins are clean and unobstructed, and avoid running the engine at high RPMs for extended periods.
To store your Raptor for the winter, clean it thoroughly, change the oil, top off the fuel tank with a stabilizer, disconnect the battery, and store it in a dry, covered location.
