It is recommended to use SAE 10W-40, API service SE, SF, SG type oil for the Yamaha YFM40FBX Big Bear 400 2008. Ensure the oil is suitable for wet clutches.
First, check the battery condition and ensure it is fully charged. Examine the fuel system for blockages, and inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage. Verify that the kill switch is in the correct position and that fuel is reaching the engine.
Perform oil changes every 6 months or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first. Clean the air filter every 3 months or 500 miles. Check and adjust the brakes and inspect the tires for wear regularly. Replace the spark plug annually.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor. Turn the screw clockwise to increase idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it. Aim for an idle speed of approximately 1,450 to 1,550 RPM.
Check the coolant level and ensure there are no leaks in the cooling system. Clean the radiator fins and ensure there is no obstruction. Verify that the cooling fan is operational. Avoid riding in excessively hot conditions or overloading the ATV.
First, remove the spark plug cap, then use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old spark plug. Check and set the gap on the new spark plug to the manufacturer’s specifications, then install it by hand before tightening with the wrench. Reattach the spark plug cap.
Use a high-quality ethylene glycol antifreeze containing corrosion inhibitors for aluminum engines. Mix with distilled water in a 1:1 ratio for optimal performance.
Inspect the clutch plates for wear or damage and replace them if needed. Ensure the clutch cable is properly adjusted and not too tight. Use only recommended oil to avoid issues with the wet clutch system.
The recommended tire pressure for the Big Bear 400 is 4 psi (0.28 bar) for the front tires and 3 psi (0.21 bar) for the rear tires. Always check tire pressure when the tires are cold.
Clean the ATV thoroughly and apply a protective wax. Change the oil and filter, and add fuel stabilizer to the tank. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the ATV to protect it from dust and moisture.
