To perform basic maintenance, regularly check and change the oil, inspect the air filter, tighten any loose nuts and bolts, and lubricate the chain. Also, ensure that the brakes and tires are in good condition.
Use a high-quality 4-stroke motorcycle oil with a viscosity rating of 10W-40 or 20W-50, depending on the ambient temperature where you are operating the ATV.
If the ATV won’t start, check the battery for charge, inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling, ensure the fuel system is delivering fuel, and verify that the ignition system is functioning.
Remove the air filter, wash it gently with a mild detergent and water, let it dry completely, and apply a light coat of air filter oil before reinstalling it.
Overheating can be caused by low coolant levels, a dirty radiator, a malfunctioning thermostat, or a clogged exhaust system. Check and address these areas as needed.
To adjust the valve clearance, remove the valve cover, rotate the engine to TDC on the compression stroke, and use a feeler gauge to measure and adjust the clearance to the factory specifications.
Check the transmission oil level and condition, inspect the clutch for wear, and ensure the clutch cable is correctly adjusted. If problems persist, further mechanical inspection may be necessary.
Maintain proper tire pressure, regularly service the engine, use high-quality fuel, and avoid excessive idling to improve fuel efficiency.
The recommended tire pressure is typically around 4 psi for the front tires and 4 psi for the rear tires, but refer to the owner’s manual for specifics.
To replace the brake pads, remove the wheel, detach the caliper, remove the old pads, compress the caliper piston, and install the new pads before reassembling.
