To engage the 4WD system, come to a complete stop and shift the lever into the 4WD position. Ensure the indicator light is on, confirming the system is engaged. Avoid engaging 4WD while moving to prevent damage.
The recommended oil type for the Yamaha Kodiak 400 is SAE 10W-40, and the engine oil capacity is approximately 2.6 liters (2.75 US quarts) when changing the filter.
First, check the battery voltage and connections. Ensure the fuel valve is open and the kill switch is in the 'Run' position. Verify the spark plug condition and replace if necessary.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. Wash the filter with a mild detergent and water, then dry it thoroughly. Apply air filter oil before reassembling.
Regular maintenance, including oil changes, air filter cleaning, and brake checks, should be performed every 6 months or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Check the transmission fluid level and condition. If it's low or dirty, replace it with the correct type. Inspect the drive belt for wear and adjust or replace it if necessary.
To adjust the brakes, locate the brake adjuster near the brake caliper. Turn it clockwise to tighten and counterclockwise to loosen. Ensure the brake lever has the proper free play.
The recommended tire pressure for the front tires is 5.0 psi and for the rear tires is 5.0 psi. Always check the pressure when the tires are cold.
Locate the fuse box under the seat or near the battery. Remove the blown fuse and replace it with a new one of the same amperage. Always carry spare fuses for emergencies.
Overheating can be caused by low coolant levels, a clogged radiator, or a faulty thermostat. Ensure the cooling system is clean and filled with the appropriate coolant.
