It is recommended to use Yamalube 4, 10W-40, or an equivalent high-quality 4-stroke engine oil. Always ensure the oil meets or exceeds the API service classification of SJ.
The air filter should be inspected every 20 hours of operation or 200 miles, whichever comes first. Clean the filter more frequently if you operate the vehicle in dusty conditions. Replace it if it shows signs of wear or damage.
For optimal performance, the front tires should be inflated to 5.0 psi and the rear tires to 5.0 psi. Always check the pressure when the tires are cold.
If the engine doesn't start, check the battery for charge, ensure the fuel valve is on, and inspect the spark plug for fouling. Additionally, verify that the engine stop switch is in the "RUN" position.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the engine oil, inspecting the air filter, adjusting the brakes, checking the coolant level, and lubricating all control cables and pivot points.
To adjust the brakes, locate the adjuster on the brake lever or pedal. Turn the adjuster clockwise to tighten or counterclockwise to loosen. Ensure the brakes engage smoothly and effectively without excessive play.
If the engine overheats, turn off the vehicle and let it cool down. Check the coolant level and ensure the radiator is not blocked. If the problem persists, inspect the thermostat and water pump for proper operation.
To replace the spark plug, remove the spark plug cap and use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug. Install a new spark plug with the correct gap setting, typically 0.7-0.8 mm, and tighten it securely.
For long-term storage, clean the vehicle thoroughly, change the engine oil, top off the fuel tank with fresh fuel and add a fuel stabilizer. Disconnect the battery, and store the vehicle in a dry, covered location.
To change the coolant, remove the radiator cap and drain the old coolant from the system. Refill with a 50/50 mixture of distilled water and antifreeze. Run the engine to remove air pockets and check the level again, topping off if necessary.
