Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing engine oil, inspecting the air filter, checking tire pressure, and ensuring the chain is lubricated and tensioned correctly. Follow the service intervals outlined in the owner's manual for best results.
Use a high-quality 4-stroke engine oil with a viscosity grade of SAE 10W-40. Ensure it meets the required specifications outlined in the owner's manual.
Check the battery for charge and connections, inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling, and ensure fuel is reaching the engine. Verify that the kill switch is in the correct position.
The recommended tire pressure for the Yamaha Raptor 90 is 4 psi for the front tires and 5 psi for the rear tires. Always check pressure when tires are cold.
To adjust the chain tension, loosen the rear axle nut, adjust the chain adjusters evenly on both sides, and ensure there is about 1 inch of slack in the chain. Retighten the axle nut after adjustment.
If overheating occurs, stop the engine immediately. Check the coolant level and look for any leaks. Inspect the radiator for obstructions and ensure the cooling fan operates correctly.
Improving performance can be achieved by upgrading the exhaust system, installing a high-flow air filter, and rejetting the carburetor. Ensure any modifications comply with local regulations.
Inspect the air filter every 20 hours of operation or more frequently in dusty conditions. Replace the filter if it is excessively dirty or damaged.
Poor idling can be caused by a dirty carburetor, clogged air filter, or faulty spark plug. Cleaning the carburetor and replacing the air filter and spark plug can resolve these issues.
For winter storage, clean the ATV thoroughly, change the oil, add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, disconnect the battery, and store the vehicle in a dry place. Consider lifting the ATV to prevent tire flat spots.
