To break in the engine, avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration for the first 600 miles (1,000 km). Vary your speed and load conditions to ensure proper engine seating and wear.
The recommended tire pressure for the Yamaha XT250 is 18 psi for the front tire and 22 psi for the rear tire. Always check the owner's manual for specific conditions.
The oil should be changed every 3,000 miles (5,000 km) or once a year, whichever comes first. Use the recommended oil type specified in your owner's manual.
Yamaha recommends using unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 91 RON for optimal performance.
Check the battery connections, ensure the fuel valve is open, and confirm that the kill switch is in the 'run' position. If issues persist, inspect the spark plug and fuses.
Stop the motorcycle and allow the engine to cool. Check the coolant level and look for any leaks. Ensure the radiator fins are not obstructed by dirt or debris.
Loosen the axle nut and turn the adjuster bolts on either side of the swingarm to achieve the correct tension. Ensure the chain has about 1.2-1.6 inches (30-40 mm) of slack.
Clean the motorcycle thoroughly, change the oil, fill the fuel tank, and add a fuel stabilizer. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the bike to protect it from dust.
Regularly inspect the brake pads for wear and replace them if necessary. Check the brake fluid level and replace the fluid every two years. Ensure the brake lines are free from cracks or leaks.
Common signs include difficulty starting the engine, dim headlights, and a weak horn. If the battery is more than two years old or shows these symptoms, it may need replacement.
