Yamaha WR450FD 2013 Owner's Manual

For the 2013 Yamaha WR450FD, Yamaha recommends using a high-quality 4-stroke motorcycle oil with a viscosity of 10W-40. Ensure the oil meets JASO MA standards for wet clutches.
To adjust the suspension on your WR450FD for off-road riding, begin by setting the sag according to your weight. Adjust the compression and rebound damping on both the front forks and rear shock to suit the terrain and your riding style. Refer to the user manual for specific settings and adjust incrementally.
For trail riding on a WR450FD, the recommended tire pressure is typically between 12-15 psi for the front and 10-12 psi for the rear. Adjust based on terrain and personal preference.
It is recommended to clean the air filter after every ride, especially in dusty conditions. Regular cleaning ensures optimal engine performance and longevity. Use a designated air filter cleaner and re-oil it before reinstallation.
Common starting issues can include a weak battery, faulty spark plug, or clogged fuel system. Check the battery charge, inspect and clean or replace the spark plug, and ensure the fuel tank is clean with fresh fuel.
For off-season storage, clean the bike thoroughly, change the oil, and fill the fuel tank with stabilizer. Disconnect the battery, store it in a cool, dry place, and cover the bike to protect it from dust and moisture.
After every 20 hours of riding, check and adjust the valve clearance, inspect and clean the spark plug, check brake pads and fluid, and lubricate all moving parts, including the chain and cables.
To change the coolant, ensure the engine is cool, remove the radiator cap, and drain the old coolant from the drain bolt. Refill with a 50/50 mix of distilled water and ethylene glycol antifreeze, and bleed the system of any air pockets.
If your WR450FD overheats, immediately stop and let the engine cool. Check coolant levels, inspect the radiator for blockages, and ensure the water pump is functioning. Avoid riding in extreme heat and ensure proper airflow to the radiator.
To improve fuel efficiency, ensure regular maintenance including air filter and spark plug checks, use proper tire pressure, avoid excessive idling, and ride smoothly without aggressive acceleration.
