Regular maintenance should be performed every 50 hours of use or once a year, whichever comes first. This includes checking the engine oil, coolant, and inspecting the hull and impeller for damage.
For optimal performance, use Yamaha 4W marine engine oil or another high-quality 4-stroke marine engine oil that meets or exceeds the specifications in the owner's manual.
If your Waverunner won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness, ensure the fuel is fresh, and inspect the spark plugs for wear or damage.
After each saltwater use, flush the engine with fresh water by connecting a hose to the flushing port and running the engine at idle for a few minutes. Ensure the water is flowing before starting the engine.
To winterize your Waverunner, clean the exterior, drain the fuel tank or add a stabilizer, flush the engine, remove the battery, and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover it with a breathable cover.
Check for debris or damage in the impeller and jet pump, ensure the engine is properly tuned, and verify that the hull is free of marine growth. Regular maintenance can prevent performance issues.
Improve fuel efficiency by maintaining proper engine tune-up, avoiding overloading, maintaining optimal speed, and ensuring the hull is clean and free of drag-inducing substances.
Overheating may be caused by a blocked cooling system. Check the intake grate and cooling water inlets for obstructions. Ensure the cooling lines are clear and the impeller is not damaged.
Signs include reduced acceleration, unusual vibrations, and a decrease in top speed. Inspect for damage or wear, and replace if necessary to maintain performance.
Ensure all passengers wear life jackets, follow weight capacity guidelines, maintain a safe speed, and educate passengers on holding on securely during rides.
