Ensure the fuel valve is on, the choke is engaged, and the engine kill switch is in the 'run' position. Then, kick-start the engine, remembering to gradually disengage the choke as the engine warms up.
Use a high-quality 10W-40 four-stroke motorcycle oil that meets or exceeds JASO MA or MA2 specifications.
Check and clean the air filter every 6 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you ride in dusty conditions, clean it more frequently.
The recommended tire pressure is 15 psi for the front tire and 22 psi for the rear tire. Always check the pressure when the tires are cold.
First, check the fuel level, and ensure the fuel valve is open. Then, inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage. Ensure the battery is charged and connections are clean. Finally, check the kill switch and make sure the sidestand is up.
Regular maintenance includes changing the oil every 6 months or 3,000 miles, cleaning the air filter, checking tire pressure, lubricating the chain, and inspecting the brakes.
Loosen the rear axle nut, adjust the chain tensioners equally on both sides until the chain has about 1 inch of slack, then retighten the axle nut.
Stop riding immediately to allow the engine to cool down. Check the coolant level and ensure there are no leaks. Inspect the radiator and cooling fins for obstructions or damage.
Clean the bike thoroughly, change the oil, add a fuel stabilizer, inflate the tires to the recommended pressure, and store the bike in a dry, covered area. Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place.
Attach a clear hose to the brake bleeder valve, submerge the other end in brake fluid, then pump the brake lever a few times. Hold the lever, open the bleeder valve to release air, then close it. Repeat until no air bubbles appear.
