Regular maintenance should include checking and replacing spark plugs every 50 hours, changing the engine oil and filter every 100 hours, inspecting the jet pump and impeller, and flushing the cooling system after every use in saltwater.
If the Waverunner doesn't start, check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness, ensure the battery is fully charged, inspect the spark plugs for wear or fouling, and check the fuel level and fuel lines for blockages.
Yamaha recommends using Yamalube 4W 10W-40 four-stroke engine oil for optimal performance and protection.
To flush the cooling system, attach a hose to the flush port, start the engine, and turn on the water supply. Allow the water to run for a few minutes, then turn off the water and stop the engine.
Winterizing involves flushing the cooling system, adding fuel stabilizer, fogging the engine with fogging oil, lubricating moving parts, and storing the Waverunner in a dry place.
If overheating occurs, check the water intake for debris, ensure the cooling passages are clear, inspect the thermostat and replace if necessary, and verify that the impeller is not damaged.
Performance can be enhanced by installing aftermarket parts such as a high-performance impeller, air intake system, and exhaust system, as well as regularly maintaining the engine and hull.
Common electrical issues include dead batteries, corroded connections, and faulty fuses. To fix these, regularly check and clean connections, replace fuses as needed, and ensure the battery is properly charged and maintained.
For long-term storage, clean the Waverunner thoroughly, ensure it is dry, disconnect the battery, apply a protective cover, and store it in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight.
Signs of a worn impeller include reduced acceleration, unusual vibrations, and difficulty reaching top speeds. If these symptoms appear, inspect the impeller for damage or wear and replace if necessary.
