Regular maintenance should be performed every 50 hours of use or once per season, whichever comes first. This includes checking the engine oil, inspecting the hull, and ensuring the battery is charged.
Attach a garden hose to the flush port located at the rear of the Waverunner. Start the engine and turn on the water supply. Let it run for about 5 minutes to remove salt and debris, ensuring the engine does not overheat.
Check the kill switch lanyard to ensure it is properly attached. Inspect the fuses for any that may be blown and verify the connections on the battery terminals are clean and secure.
To improve fuel efficiency, ensure the engine is well-maintained, the hull is clean, and avoid carrying unnecessary weight. Riding at a steady speed and avoiding rapid acceleration can also help.
Yamaha recommends using Yamalube 4W 10W-40 oil for optimal performance and protection. Always check the owner’s manual for the latest recommendations.
Start by thoroughly cleaning the Waverunner and flushing the engine. Stabilize the fuel, lubricate moving parts, and remove the battery for storage. Cover the Waverunner to protect it from the elements.
Overheating may be caused by a clogged cooling system, low oil levels, or a malfunctioning thermostat. Inspect these components and ensure the intake grate is clear of debris.
Regularly inspect the impeller for damage or debris. Access the impeller by removing the intake grate and jet pump housing. Clean any blockages and ensure the impeller spins freely.
Store the Waverunner in a cool, dry place, ideally on a trailer or lift. Use a fitted cover to protect from dust and moisture. Ensure it is properly winterized if stored in freezing temperatures.
After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the Waverunner thoroughly with fresh water. Use a corrosion inhibitor spray on metal parts and keep the Waverunner stored in a dry environment.
