It is recommended to perform regular maintenance every 50 hours or once a year, whichever comes first. This includes oil changes, spark plug checks, and inspection of the hull and impeller.
To winterize your Waverunner, first clean and dry it thoroughly. Add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, run the engine for a few minutes, and then fog the engine cylinders. Drain any remaining water and store the Waverunner in a dry place.
Use Yamaha 4W 10W-40 four-stroke engine oil or an equivalent marine-grade oil that meets or exceeds NMMA FC-W specifications.
Check the battery for charge and connections, inspect the starter relay and fuses, and ensure the safety lanyard is properly attached. If the problem persists, consult a Yamaha technician.
Connect a garden hose to the flushing port, start the engine, and then turn on the water. Let the engine run for about 5 minutes to flush the system, then turn off the water and stop the engine.
Remove the top cover, disconnect the ignition coils, and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plugs. Install new plugs, reconnect the coils, and replace the cover.
Excessive vibration can be caused by a damaged impeller or debris in the jet pump. Inspect and clean the impeller and pump, and replace any damaged components.
Shut off the engine immediately and allow it to cool. Check for obstructions in the cooling intake and ensure the cooling system is functioning properly. If the problem persists, seek professional assistance.
Consider upgrading the intake grate, impeller, and exhaust system. Regular maintenance and using performance-boosting fuel additives can also enhance performance.
Check the fuel and oil levels, ensure the battery is charged, inspect the hull for damage, test the throttle and steering, and make sure all safety equipment is on board.
