Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the engine oil, inspecting the spark plugs, cleaning the air filter, and checking the fuel lines and connections for leaks. Also, ensure the impeller and pump are free from debris.
First, check the battery to ensure it is charged and the terminals are clean. Inspect the fuel lines for any blockages or leaks, and check the spark plugs for wear or damage. Finally, verify the kill switch is properly engaged.
To winterize, thoroughly clean and dry the Waverunner, change the oil and filter, add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank, and fog the engine cylinders. Store the Waverunner in a dry place, preferably with a cover.
Common issues include fuel pump failure, clogged injectors, overheating due to clogged cooling passages, and electrical problems such as corroded connections or a weak battery.
Check the cooling water intake for blockages, inspect the thermostat for proper operation, and ensure the water pump is functioning correctly. Also, ensure there is no debris around the impeller.
Yamaha recommends using Yamalube 4W 10W-40 for the FX140 Waverunner. This oil is designed to provide maximum protection for marine engines.
It is recommended to inspect the spark plugs every 50 hours of operation or annually and replace them if they show signs of wear or fouling.
Attach a garden hose to the flushing port, start the engine, and then turn on the water. Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes, remove the hose, and then turn off the engine. Ensure the water is flowing before starting the engine to prevent overheating.
Inspect the fuel lines, connections, and fuel tank for any signs of fuel leakage or deterioration. Pay special attention to areas around the fuel pump and injectors. If any leaks are found, replace the damaged components immediately.
Check the hull and seals for any visible cracks or damage. Ensure the drain plugs are securely in place and inspect the bilge pump for proper operation. If water ingress continues, have a professional examine the Waverunner.
