The recommended maintenance schedule includes a full inspection every 10 hours or once a year, whichever comes first. Key checks should include the oil level, battery condition, fuel system, and jet pump lubrication.
To troubleshoot starting issues, first check the battery connections and ensure they are tight and corrosion-free. Verify the battery charge level. If the engine still won’t start, inspect the ignition system and fuel supply.
Use high-quality, NMMA-certified FC-W 4-stroke engine oil. Yamaha recommends using their own brand for optimal performance, specifically Yamalube 4W 10W-40.
Regularly rinse the Waverunner with fresh water after each use, especially if used in saltwater. Apply a corrosion protection spray to metal components and ensure the craft is dried thoroughly to prevent moisture buildup.
If overheating occurs, immediately shut off the engine and allow it to cool. Check for debris blocking the cooling intake. Inspect the coolant level and ensure the cooling system is functioning properly.
To store the Waverunner for the winter, clean and dry it thoroughly. Add a fuel stabilizer to the tank, change the oil, and remove the battery to store it in a dry place. Cover the craft with a breathable cover.
To flush the engine, connect a garden hose to the flushing connector. Start the engine, then turn on the water. Let it run for a few minutes. Turn off the water first, then shut off the engine.
Check the throttle cable by inspecting the cable tension and ensuring smooth operation. Adjust the cable using the adjuster nut near the throttle body, ensuring there is slight free play when the throttle lever is released.
To perform a diagnostic check, use the onboard diagnostics accessible via the multifunction information center. Follow the prompts to check for any error codes and consult the service manual for code meanings.
Excessive vibration can be caused by debris in the jet pump or damage to the impeller. Inspect the intake grate and impeller for obstructions or damage, and remove any debris found.
