For optimal performance, it is recommended to follow the maintenance schedule outlined in the owner’s manual. This includes regular engine oil changes, checking and replacing spark plugs, inspecting the hull and deck for damage, and flushing the engine after each use in saltwater.
To flush the engine, connect a garden hose to the flushing port, start the engine, and then turn on the water. Let it run for a few minutes to ensure all salt and debris are cleared. Turn off the water before stopping the engine to prevent water from entering the exhaust.
First, check the battery connections for any loose or corroded terminals. Ensure the battery is charged. If the problem persists, inspect the ignition system, fuses, and consult the manual or a professional technician for further diagnostics.
Maintain steady speeds, avoid rapid acceleration, and ensure your Waverunner is properly tuned. Regular maintenance, such as changing the oil and cleaning the air filter, can also improve fuel efficiency.
Yamaha recommends using Yamalube 4W 10W-40 for optimal performance, but any high-quality marine 4-stroke engine oil that meets the specifications in the owner’s manual can be used.
To winterize your Waverunner, thoroughly clean and dry it, flush the cooling system, add fuel stabilizer, change the oil, and remove the battery for storage. Cover the Waverunner to protect it from dust and debris.
Store the Waverunner in a cool, dry place, ideally on a trailer or stand to prevent hull deformation. Use a cover to protect it from dust and sunlight. Ensure all water is drained and the battery is disconnected if storing for long periods.
Check for blockages in the cooling intake and ensure the impeller is not damaged. Make sure the cooling system is flushed regularly. If the problem persists, have the thermostat and cooling lines checked by a professional.
Inspect the hull for damage, ensure the throttle and steering controls are functioning properly, check the fuel level, and ensure that the safety lanyard is operational. Verify that all safety equipment, such as life jackets, is on board.
First, remove the engine cover and locate the spark plugs. Disconnect the spark plug wires, then use a spark plug socket to remove the old plugs. Install the new plugs by hand to avoid cross-threading, tighten with a socket, and reconnect the wires.
