The Yamaha FX SHO 2008 is designed to run on unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 86. For optimal performance, using fuel with a higher octane rating is recommended.
It is recommended to change the oil every 50 hours of operation or at least once a year. Always use the recommended oil type, which is SAE 10W-30 or SAE 10W-40.
To winterize your Yamaha FX SHO, clean the watercraft thoroughly, stabilize the fuel, change the oil and filter, flush the cooling system with fresh water, and apply fogging oil to the engine. Store it in a dry and secure location.
If your watercraft won't start, check the battery connections and charge the battery. Inspect the spark plugs for wear and replace if necessary. Ensure the fuel level is adequate and the fuel filter is not clogged.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the engine oil, inspecting and replacing spark plugs, checking coolant levels, and inspecting the hull and deck for damage. Also, ensure the steering system and throttle are functioning properly.
To flush the cooling system, attach a garden hose to the flushing port, start the engine, and turn on the water. Allow the water to flow for several minutes, then turn off the water before stopping the engine.
If overheating occurs, check for clogged intake grates or debris around the impeller. Ensure the cooling system is not blocked and the water pump is operational. Inspect the coolant level and refill if necessary.
To improve fuel efficiency, maintain a steady throttle and avoid rapid acceleration. Keep the hull clean to reduce drag, and ensure the engine is properly maintained with clean oil and air filters.
The recommended spark plug gap for the Yamaha FX SHO 2008 is 0.7-0.8 mm (0.028-0.031 in). Use a feeler gauge to check and adjust the gap if necessary when replacing spark plugs.
To check the throttle and steering system, ensure there is no excessive play in the throttle lever and steering handle. Verify that the cables are properly lubricated and not frayed or damaged. Adjust as necessary for smooth operation.
