The recommended maintenance schedule includes an initial service at 10 hours, followed by regular maintenance every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first. This includes oil changes, filter replacements, and inspection of critical components.
If you're experiencing starting issues, check the battery charge and connections. Ensure the safety lanyard is properly attached and that the engine stop switch is in the 'run' position. If the problem persists, inspect the spark plugs and fuel system.
Use a Yamalube 4W 10W-40 or an equivalent 4-stroke marine engine oil that meets or exceeds the standards set by NMMA FC-W.
To improve fuel efficiency, ensure the Waverunner is well-maintained, including a clean hull and properly inflated impeller housing. Avoid excessive idling and maintain a steady speed while riding.
If your Waverunner overheats, stop the engine immediately and allow it to cool. Check for blockages in the water intake and ensure the cooling system is functioning properly. Inspect the impeller and pump for damage.
For winter storage, clean and dry the Waverunner thoroughly. Stabilize the fuel, change the oil, and lubricate moving parts. Store it in a dry, cool place, preferably on a trailer or lift, and cover it to protect from dust and debris.
To flush the engine, connect a hose to the flushing port and run clean freshwater through it for about 5 minutes. Start the engine before turning on the water and stop the water before turning off the engine to prevent engine flooding.
To check the impeller, inspect it visually for any signs of wear, cracks, or debris. Rotate it manually to ensure it moves freely. If there are any signs of damage, it may need replacing or servicing.
Common signs include unusual noises, a decrease in performance, difficulty starting, excessive vibrations, or warning lights on the dashboard. Regular inspections can prevent these issues.
It is not recommended to use automotive oil in your Waverunner. Marine engines require oils that can handle the unique environment and operating conditions, such as Yamalube or other NMMA FC-W certified oils.
