Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing the engine oil, inspecting the fuel system, checking the propeller, and inspecting the cooling system. Always refer to the owner's manual for specific intervals and procedures.
Ensure that the fuel tank has fuel and the fuel line is not clogged. Check the battery connections and charge the battery if necessary. Inspect the spark plugs and replace them if they are worn.
Check the water intake for blockages and ensure the water pump is functioning properly. Inspect the thermostat and replace it if it is faulty. Verify that the cooling system is free of debris.
Use Yamaha 4-stroke outboard motor oil or another high-quality marine 4-stroke engine oil with an appropriate viscosity grade as recommended in the owner's manual.
Spark plugs should be inspected and cleaned every 100 hours of operation or at least once a year. Replace them if they show signs of wear or damage.
Check the fuel system for clogs or leaks, ensure the air filter is clean, and inspect the propeller for damage or obstructions. Verify that the engine is not overheating.
Rinse the engine with fresh water after each use, especially after saltwater exposure. Apply anti-corrosion spray on metal parts and store the motor in a dry environment.
Yamaha recommends using fuel with a maximum of 10% ethanol content. Avoid using fuels with higher ethanol concentrations as they can damage the engine.
Flush the engine with fresh water, change the engine oil, stabilize the fuel, and store the motor in an upright position. Consult the owner's manual for detailed winterization steps.
Locate the idle speed adjustment screw on the engine and turn it clockwise to increase the idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it. Refer to the service manual for the recommended idle speed range.
