To perform basic maintenance on the Yamaha 90AETOL, regularly check the oil level, inspect the propeller for damage, clean the fuel filter, and grease any moving parts. Ensure to flush the engine with fresh water after each use in saltwater.
If the Yamaha 90AETOL won’t start, check the fuel level, ensure the fuel line is connected properly, inspect the spark plugs for wear, and verify that the battery is fully charged.
To troubleshoot overheating, inspect the water pump impeller for wear, ensure the cooling water intake is not blocked, and check for any leaks in the cooling system.
The Yamaha 90AETOL is designed to run on unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Using high-quality fuel helps maintain engine performance.
It is recommended to change the oil every 100 hours of operation or at least once per season, whichever comes first. Always use the oil type specified in the owner’s manual.
Excessive smoke may indicate an issue with the fuel mixture, oil level, or spark plugs. Check these components and adjust as necessary. Ensure the engine is not overfilled with oil.
To prevent corrosion, regularly rinse the outboard motor with fresh water after use in saltwater, apply anti-corrosion spray on metal parts, and ensure the anodes are in good condition.
Before winter storage, stabilize the fuel, change the oil and filters, remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place, and fog the engine to prevent corrosion.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor and turn it slowly until the engine runs smoothly at the recommended RPM specified in the manual.
Excessive vibration may be caused by a damaged propeller, loose engine mounts, or misalignment. Inspect and repair or replace any damaged components to resolve the issue.
