To start the Yamaha 60FETOL, ensure the engine is in neutral, connect the fuel line, prime the bulb until firm, turn the key to 'Start', and let the engine idle for a few minutes to warm up.
The recommended maintenance schedule includes checking the oil level and condition every use, changing the oil every 100 hours or once a year, inspecting the propeller and fuel system regularly, and servicing the cooling system annually.
If the engine won't start, check the battery charge, ensure the fuel tank is full and the fuel line is not kinked, inspect the spark plugs, and confirm that the kill switch is properly connected.
Use Yamalube 4M FC-W 10W-30 or a similar high-quality marine-grade oil that meets NMMA FC-W certification for optimal performance and protection.
To winterize, stabilize the fuel, flush the engine with fresh water, change the oil and filter, lubricate moving parts, and store the engine in an upright position.
If the engine overheats, stop immediately, check for blockages in the cooling system, inspect the water pump impeller, and ensure there is adequate water flow through the engine.
To improve fuel efficiency, maintain a steady throttle, ensure the propeller is in good condition, reduce excess weight, and perform regular engine maintenance.
Signs of a failing impeller include overheating, reduced water flow from the tell-tale, and unusual noises from the water pump area. Replace the impeller if these symptoms are present.
To replace spark plugs, disconnect the spark plug wires, remove the old plugs with a socket wrench, install new plugs hand-tight, and then tighten with a wrench to the manufacturer's torque specification.
Excessive vibration may be caused by a damaged propeller, loose hardware, or engine mounting issues. Inspect the propeller for damage, tighten all bolts, and ensure the engine is securely mounted.
