To start the Toro Z Master Z287L 74213 mower, make sure the control levers are in the neutral position. Engage the parking brake, turn the key to the 'ON' position, and pull the choke if the engine is cold. Turn the key to 'START' and release it once the engine starts.
Check the battery connections and charge if necessary. Ensure the fuel tank has fresh gasoline and the fuel shut-off valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for fouling or wear. Verify that the safety interlocks are engaged correctly.
Regular maintenance should be performed at the intervals specified in the owner's manual. Typically, this includes oil changes every 50 hours, checking the air filter and spark plug every 25 hours, and inspecting the blades and belts regularly.
To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, then turn it off. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the old oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug and add new oil through the dipstick tube, checking the level to ensure it is correct.
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent engine damage.
Check the tire pressure to ensure they are even. Inspect the blades for sharpness and damage, and replace or sharpen as necessary. Make sure the deck is level and adjust if needed.
Locate the cutting height adjustment lever on the mower deck. Move the lever to the desired cutting height position, ensuring that both sides of the deck are adjusted equally for an even cut.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades, loose bolts, or worn-out bearings. Inspect the blades for balance and damage, tighten any loose bolts, and replace bearings if necessary.
After mowing, use a garden hose to spray off grass clippings and debris from the mower deck. For stubborn buildup, gently scrape with a plastic scraper. Avoid using a pressure washer, as it can damage the bearings.
Check the PTO switch to ensure it is in the 'ON' position. Inspect the belt for damage or dislodgement. Confirm the safety interlocks are functioning, and that the engine speed is set to the recommended level for blade engagement.
