To start the Toro Whirlwind 18-inch mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, set the choke lever to 'choke' if the engine is cold, and pull the starter handle briskly. Once the engine starts, move the choke to 'run'.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than 10% as they may damage the engine.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours or at the start of each mowing season. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected, and inspect the air filter for clogs. If the issue persists, consult the manual for further troubleshooting steps.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, remove the blade, and use a file or sharpening tool. Ensure the blade is balanced before reattaching it.
Regularly sharpen the blade, keep the underside of the deck clean, and mow when the grass is dry. Adjust the cutting height for optimal results.
Drain the fuel tank, change the oil, clean the mower deck, inspect the blade, and store in a dry, sheltered location.
Locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel and move them to the desired cutting height position. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Check for a damaged or unbalanced blade. Inspect the engine mounting bolts and tighten if necessary. If vibration persists, consult a professional technician.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, and clean it using compressed air or replace it if it’s too dirty. Ensure it is completely dry before reinstallation.
