Toro Wheel Horse 78231 Operator's Manual

To change the oil, first run the mower for a few minutes to warm up the oil. Then, turn off the engine and remove the ignition key. Place an oil pan under the oil drain plug, remove the plug, and let the old oil drain completely. Replace the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil type and quantity.
It is recommended to use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and 10W-30 for a broader temperature range. Always check the owner's manual for specific oil recommendations.
If the mower won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel tank is full and the fuel valve is open, and inspect the spark plug for wear or damage. Replace or clean components as needed.
To sharpen the blades, first disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Remove the blade by loosening the bolt that holds it in place. Use a file or a bench grinder to sharpen the blade, maintaining the original angle. Balance the blade before reinstalling.
The air filter should be inspected and cleaned every 25 hours of use and replaced every 100 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Always replace with a Toro-certified part.
To winterize, clean the mower thoroughly, drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, and remove the battery for indoor storage. Cover the mower to protect it from dust and moisture.
Uncut strips may be due to dull blades, improper blade installation, or an uneven mowing surface. Check and sharpen the blades, ensure they are installed correctly, and mow on a level surface.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired height setting, ensuring all wheels are set to the same level for an even cut.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced blade, loose deck components, or worn belts. Check the blade balance, tighten any loose components, and replace worn belts as necessary.
To replace the spark plug, first disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a spark plug socket to remove the old plug. Check the gap on the new plug with a feeler gauge, install it by hand, and then tighten with a socket. Reconnect the spark plug wire.
