To change the oil, first warm up the engine to allow the oil to flow more freely. Turn off the tractor and place a pan under the drain plug. Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug and fill the engine with the recommended oil type and amount, usually found in the owner's manual.
Use clean, fresh unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent engine damage.
Check the PTO (Power Take-Off) switch to ensure it is engaged. Inspect the drive belt for wear or damage and replace it if necessary. Make sure all safety switches are operational and not preventing engagement.
The recommended tire pressure is typically around 10-12 psi for the front tires and 8-10 psi for the rear tires. Always refer to the operator's manual for specific tire pressure recommendations.
Ensure the engine is cool before beginning. Remove the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Check the gap on the new spark plug with a gap tool and adjust if necessary. Install the new plug, tighten it securely, and reattach the spark plug wire.
The tractor may overheat due to a clogged air filter, low oil level, or debris in the cooling fins. Check and clean or replace the air filter, ensure the oil is at the proper level, and remove any debris from the cooling fins.
Locate the cutting height adjustment lever, usually on the fender or near the operator's seat. Adjust the lever to the desired mowing height. Confirm that the deck is level by measuring the blade tip height on both sides of the deck.
Check the battery to ensure it is charged and the terminals are clean. Examine the fuel supply and ensure the fuel shut-off valve is open. Verify the spark plug is in good condition and the ignition switch is functioning properly.
Clean the tractor thoroughly to remove grass and debris. Add a fuel stabilizer to the tank and run the engine for a few minutes. Change the oil and filter, and remove the battery to store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the tractor and store it in a dry location.
Mower blades should be sharpened at least once a mowing season or after every 25 hours of use. Dull blades can tear the grass rather than cut it cleanly, causing lawn damage.
