Ensure the mower is on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, set the throttle to fast, turn the ignition key to the start position, and release once the engine starts.
Check the fuel level, ensure the battery is charged, verify the spark plug is clean and properly connected, and confirm the safety switches are engaged.
Locate the height adjustment lever on the side of the mower, and move it to the desired cutting height setting.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening the blades, and inspecting the belts for wear.
Disconnect the spark plug, use a wrench to remove the blade bolt, take off the old blade, and attach the new blade ensuring it is properly secured.
Check if the blades are dull and need sharpening, ensure the tire pressure is even, and verify that the deck is level.
Turn off the mower and remove the spark plug wire, use a hose to wash away grass clippings, and scrape off any stubborn debris with a plastic scraper.
Toro recommends using SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F and 10W-30 for a broader temperature range.
Regular maintenance such as keeping the air filter clean, maintaining sharp blades, and operating at the recommended speed can help improve fuel efficiency.
Always wear appropriate protective gear, keep hands and feet away from moving parts, and never operate the mower on steep slopes or wet grass.
