To change the oil, first ensure the mower is on a level surface. Warm up the engine to thin the oil, then turn it off. Remove the oil cap and place a pan under the drain plug. Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to completely drain. Replace the plug, add new oil, and check the level with the dipstick.
For optimal performance, use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always check the owner’s manual for specific recommendations.
First, disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting. Lift the mower deck and secure it. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolts. Remove the old blades and replace them with new ones, ensuring they are properly aligned. Tighten the bolts securely.
If the mower won't start, check the fuel level and quality, ensure the spark plug is functioning properly, and the air filter is clean. Also, inspect the battery connections and charge if necessary.
Adjust the cutting height by positioning the deck height adjustment lever located near the rear wheel. Move the lever to the desired position to raise or lower the cutting height. Ensure both sides are set to the same level for even cutting.
If the deck is not engaging, check the PTO switch and ensure it is functioning. Inspect the drive belt for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Also, check the electrical connections and fuses.
Blades should be sharpened at least once per mowing season, or more frequently if the grass appears frayed or torn after cutting. Regular sharpening ensures a clean cut and promotes lawn health.
The recommended tire pressure is typically around 12-15 psi for front tires and 8-12 psi for rear tires. Refer to the owner’s manual for exact specifications. Regularly check the pressure to ensure proper traction and maneuverability.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover and take out the filter. If it is a paper filter, tap it gently to remove debris, or replace it if it is heavily soiled. If it is a foam filter, wash it with soap and water, allow it to dry, and apply fresh oil before reinstalling.
For off-season storage, clean the mower thoroughly, remove any grass and debris. Drain or stabilize the fuel, change the oil, and remove the battery. Store the mower in a dry, cool place, and cover it to protect against dust and moisture.
