To start the snow thrower, ensure it is on a flat surface. Check the oil and fuel levels, set the choke to the full position, and pull the starter handle or use the electric start if available. Allow the engine to warm up before use.
Before the winter season, change the engine oil, inspect and replace the spark plug if necessary, lubricate moving parts, check the belts for wear, and ensure the auger and impeller are free from damage.
If the snow thrower won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the fuel valve is open, verify the spark plug connection, and inspect for any blockages in the fuel line. Also, ensure the choke is in the correct position.
If the snow thrower is not throwing snow far enough, check for a clogged chute or auger, adjust the chute deflector, and ensure the impeller is clear of debris. Additionally, verify that the engine is running at full throttle.
To replace the auger belt, disconnect the spark plug, remove the belt cover, and loosen the belt tension. Remove the old belt and install the new one, ensuring it is properly seated on the pulleys. Re-tighten the tension and replace the belt cover.
For off-season storage, drain the fuel tank, change the engine oil, remove the spark plug and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder, then replace the spark plug. Clean the entire unit and store it in a dry, covered location.
To adjust the skid shoes, place the snow thrower on a flat surface. Loosen the skid shoe bolts, adjust the height to your preference (typically 1/4 inch above the ground for paved surfaces), and retighten the bolts.
If the engine is running rough, inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, check the air filter for dirt or obstructions, and ensure the fuel is fresh and of the correct mixture. Clean or replace components as necessary.
To clear a clogged chute, first turn off the engine and remove the ignition key. Use a chute clearing tool or a stick to dislodge and remove the packed snow. Never use your hands to clear the chute.
Toro recommends using SAE 5W-30 oil for the Wheel Horse 42-inch 06-42SS01 snow thrower, especially in cold temperatures, to ensure optimal performance and engine protection.
