Toro Wheel Horse 240 Series 42-16BE01 Operator's Manual

To change the oil, first warm up the engine to allow the oil to drain easily. Turn off the engine and remove the oil drain plug underneath the tractor to let the old oil drain into a container. Replace the drain plug and refill the engine with the recommended oil type and amount.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level before each use, changing the oil every 50 hours of operation, inspecting the air filter every 25 hours, sharpening the blades as needed, and checking tire pressure regularly.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel tank has fresh fuel, replace the spark plug if necessary, and inspect the ignition switch for any damages.
Use SAE 30 oil for general use and SAE 10W-30 for varying temperature conditions. Always refer to the owner’s manual for the most accurate oil recommendations.
To adjust the cutting deck, park the tractor on a flat surface and lower the deck to the desired height using the lever. Ensure that both sides of the deck are level by measuring from the ground to the deck on each side and adjusting the linkages if needed.
Check the PTO (Power Take-Off) switch and its connections, ensure the drive belt is not broken or loose, and examine the mower deck for any obstructions. Replace any damaged components as necessary.
First, remove the mower deck and locate the drive belt. Release the tension on the belt by adjusting the tensioner, then remove the old belt and install the new one. Re-tension the belt and reattach the mower deck.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades, a loose engine mounting, or worn-out bearings. Inspect these components and replace or repair them as needed.
To improve fuel efficiency, keep the engine well-maintained with regular oil changes and air filter replacements, ensure the tires are properly inflated, and operate the tractor at recommended speeds.
Before storing, clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, add a fuel stabilizer to the tank, and disconnect the battery. Store the tractor in a dry, covered area to protect it from the elements.
