To change the blades, first ensure the mower is off and the key is removed. Lift the mower deck using the deck lift lever, then use a wrench to remove the blade bolt. Replace the old blade with a new one, ensuring it is installed in the correct orientation. Tighten the blade bolt securely before lowering the deck.
The Toro Titan ZX5020 74840 mower requires SAE 10W-30 oil that meets API service classification SF, SG, SH, SJ, or higher. Always check the owner’s manual for recommended oil capacity and change intervals.
If the mower is not starting, check the battery charge and connections, ensure the fuel tank has fresh gasoline, and verify that the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Also, make sure the parking brake is engaged and the PTO switch is off.
To improve cut quality, ensure the blades are sharp and balanced, the tire pressure is correct, and the deck is level. Adjust the cutting height and mow at the appropriate speed for the grass condition.
The recommended maintenance schedule includes checking the engine oil before each use, cleaning the air filter every 25 hours, replacing the spark plug annually, and lubricating all grease fittings every 25 hours of operation. Refer to the owner’s manual for a complete maintenance checklist.
To adjust tracking, ensure the mower is on a level surface, then adjust the tracking adjustment bolts located on the control levers. Test drive the mower and make incremental adjustments until it tracks straight.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced blade, loose components, or debris caught in the deck. Check and balance the blades, tighten any loose parts, and clean the deck thoroughly.
To clean the mower deck, park the mower on a level surface, disengage the PTO, and remove the key. Use a hose to rinse the underside of the deck, or use a deck scraper to remove built-up grass clippings and debris. Ensure the deck is dry before storing the mower.
Before storing, clean the mower thoroughly, change the oil, and remove the battery to store in a cool, dry place. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank, and store the mower in a covered, dry location.
Check that the tire pressure is even, the deck is level, and the blades are sharp and properly installed. Also, inspect the deck for damage or obstructions that may affect performance.
