To change the oil, start by running the engine for a few minutes to warm it up. Turn off the engine and remove the ignition key. Place an oil pan beneath the drain valve, open the drain valve, and allow the oil to fully drain. Replace the drain valve cap, remove the oil filter, and install a new one. Refill with the recommended oil type and capacity.
Check if the fuel tank is filled with fresh gasoline. Verify that the spark plug is not fouled or damaged. Ensure the battery is charged and connected properly. Inspect the air filter for cleanliness and replace if necessary. Also, check the safety switches to ensure they are functioning correctly.
It is recommended to sharpen the mower blades at least once a mowing season, or more frequently if you notice uneven cutting or if the grass is tearing instead of being cleanly cut. Always disconnect the spark plug before working on the blades for safety.
The Toro TimeCutter ZX440 74406 is designed to use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content as it may cause engine damage.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the deck lift lever on the mower. Move the lever to your desired cutting height position. The height is usually indicated on a scale next to the lever. Ensure both sides of the deck are adjusted to the same height for an even cut.
At the end of the mowing season, clean the mower thoroughly to remove grass clippings and debris. Change the engine oil and replace the oil filter. Inspect and clean or replace the air filter. Check the spark plug and replace if necessary. Sharpen or replace the blades. Finally, add a fuel stabilizer to the tank to prevent fuel degradation.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades, loose hardware, or debris lodged in the mower deck. Check the blades for damage or imbalance and replace if necessary. Tighten any loose bolts or components. Clear any debris from the deck and check the spindles for damage.
To replace the drive belt, first disconnect the spark plug. Remove the mower deck and locate the drive belt on the pulleys. Release the tension on the belt by adjusting the tensioner. Remove the old belt and replace it with a new one, ensuring it is routed correctly around all pulleys. Reinstall the mower deck.
If the mower is cutting unevenly, check that the tire pressure is equal on all four tires. Inspect the blades for sharpness and replace if dull. Ensure the mower deck is level by measuring from the blade tips to the ground on both sides and adjusting if necessary.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover and take out the filter. For foam filters, wash with warm soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry completely before reinstalling. For paper filters, gently tap to remove dirt or replace if heavily soiled. Ensure the filter is seated properly in the housing before securing the cover.
