To change the oil, warm up the engine for a few minutes to make the oil easier to drain. Turn off the mower and place it on a level surface. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug and fill with new oil as specified in the manual. Check the oil level with the dipstick.
Ensure the battery is charged and the safety switches are engaged. Check the fuel level and make sure it is fresh. Inspect the spark plug and clean or replace it if necessary. Verify that the air filter is clean and not clogged.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on the mower deck. Move the lever to the desired height position, ensuring it is securely locked in place. Make sure both sides of the deck are at the same height for an even cut.
Uncut strips of grass may be due to dull or damaged blades. Check the blades for sharpness and damage, and sharpen or replace them as necessary. Ensure the mower deck is clean and the grass isn't too wet or tall, which can affect cutting performance.
Blades should be sharpened at least once a mowing season or after 25 hours of use. However, if you notice poor cutting performance or the blades appear dull, sharpen them more frequently.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than 10%, as they can cause engine damage. Always use fresh fuel and stabilize it if storing the mower for more than 30 days.
To clean the mower deck, make sure the engine is off and the spark plug is disconnected. Use a garden hose to spray underneath the deck, removing grass clippings and debris. For stubborn buildup, use a plastic scraper. Ensure the deck is dry before storing the mower.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Check for bent or damaged blades and replace if necessary. Also, inspect the mower deck and engine mounting bolts to ensure they are tight.
To winterize, drain the fuel system or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil and replace the oil filter. Clean the mower thoroughly, especially the undercarriage. Store the mower in a dry, covered area and remove the battery, keeping it in a cool, dry place.
To improve traction, ensure the tires are properly inflated and in good condition. Consider using tire chains for added grip. Mow up and down slopes instead of across, and reduce speed to maintain control.
