To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, then turn off the mower. Locate the oil drain valve, remove the cap, and allow the old oil to fully drain into a suitable container. Replace the cap, and refill with the recommended oil type and quantity specified in the user manual.
Check the battery connections to ensure they are tight and clean. Verify the fuel level and quality, and ensure the spark plug is in good condition. If the mower still won't start, check the air filter and replace it if it's dirty or clogged.
Blades should be sharpened at least once a season or every 25 hours of use to ensure optimal cutting performance. More frequent sharpening may be required if you mow in rocky or sandy conditions.
After each use, remove grass clippings and debris from the mower deck using a brush or compressed air. For a more thorough cleaning, use a hose with a moderate spray setting to wash away any remaining debris, making sure not to saturate the engine or electrical components.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever, typically on the mower's fender. Move the lever to the desired position, which corresponds to the cutting height indicated on the mower. Ensure the mower is on a flat surface when making adjustments.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Check the blades for damage or imbalance, and replace or sharpen them as needed. Also, inspect the mower deck for any debris or obstructions that may cause vibration.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content, as it can damage the engine and fuel system components.
To replace the air filter, locate the air filter cover on the side of the engine. Remove the cover, take out the old filter, and replace it with a new one. Make sure the new filter is seated properly before replacing the cover.
Uneven cutting can result from a dull blade, uneven tire pressure, or an improperly leveled mower deck. Check and sharpen the blade, ensure all tires are inflated to the recommended pressure, and adjust the deck level if necessary.
To improve fuel efficiency, regularly maintain the mower by keeping the air filter and spark plugs clean, ensuring the blades are sharp, and checking tire pressure. Avoid mowing when the grass is wet or too tall, as this can increase fuel consumption.
