To start the Toro TimeCutter 17-42Z 74350 mower, first ensure the parking brake is engaged. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the 'START' position while holding down the safety lever. Once the engine starts, release the key to the 'RUN' position.
Use SAE 10W-30 or SAE 30 motor oil for the Toro TimeCutter 17-42Z 74350. Ensure that the oil is a high-quality detergent oil classified 'For Service SF, SG, SH, SJ' or higher.
The oil should be changed after the first 5 hours of operation and then every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Always check the oil level before each use.
The recommended tire pressure for the Toro TimeCutter 17-42Z 74350 is 13 psi (89.6 kPa) for the rear tires and 15 psi (103.4 kPa) for the front tires.
If the mower won't start, check the following: ensure the battery is charged, verify the fuel level, check the spark plug for wear or damage, and confirm that the safety interlocks are properly engaged.
To adjust the cutting height, use the cutting height adjustment lever located on the right side of the mower. Move the lever to the desired cutting height position, ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 inches.
Regular maintenance of the mower deck includes cleaning the underside to prevent grass buildup, checking the blades for sharpness or damage, and ensuring all nuts and bolts are tight.
To replace the blades, park the mower on a flat surface and disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt and carefully replace the blade. Ensure the new blade is installed with the cutting edge facing the correct direction.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Check the blades to ensure they are balanced and not bent. Also, inspect the blade spindle and mower deck for damage.
To winterize the mower, clean the mower thoroughly, change the oil, add fuel stabilizer, and run the engine for a few minutes. Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the mower and store it in a sheltered area.
