Ensure the fuel valve is open, the spark plug is connected, and the control bar is held against the handle. Pull the starter rope to start the mower.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is not dirty or damaged, and verify that the air filter is clean. Also, make sure the control bar is fully depressed.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then annually or after every 50 hours of operation.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than 10%.
Turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug. Use a garden hose to spray under the deck and remove any grass clippings.
Remove the blade and secure it in a vice. Use a file or grinder to sharpen the cutting edges evenly. Reinstall the blade ensuring it is balanced.
Adjust the cutting height to a higher setting and ensure the tires are properly inflated. Consider mowing across the slope rather than up and down.
Check if the blade is bent or unbalanced and inspect for any debris caught in the blade or under the deck. Tighten any loose components.
Clean the mower thoroughly, change the oil, empty the fuel tank or add a stabilizer, and store it in a dry location. Disconnect the spark plug for safety.
Replace the spark plug, sharpen the blade, change the oil, clean or replace the air filter, and ensure all bolts and screws are tightened.
