Ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Check the fuel level, engage the parking brake, and set the throttle to the 'start' position. Pull the starter rope with a smooth, rapid motion.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 40°F (4°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 40°F (4°C) for optimal performance and protection.
Sharpen the mower blades after every 25 hours of use, or more frequently if cutting tough grass, to ensure a clean cut and reduce strain on the engine.
Check the fuel level and quality, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly connected, and inspect the air filter for clogs. Clean or replace these components as necessary.
Locate the cutting height adjustment levers near each wheel. Adjust all levers to the desired height setting for an even cut.
Perform regular maintenance including oil changes every 50 hours, air filter checks every 25 hours, spark plug replacement annually, and blade sharpening as needed.
Turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a garden hose to spray the underside of the deck, removing grass clippings and debris. Let it dry before storing.
Check for any debris stuck in the blades or under the deck. Inspect the blade for damage or imbalance, and tighten any loose bolts. Replace or balance the blade if necessary.
Regularly maintain the engine, keep the air filter clean, use fresh fuel, and ensure the blades are sharp to improve fuel efficiency and reduce engine strain.
Ensure the blades are sharp and clean, check the cutting height settings, and adjust your mowing speed. Overlapping your mowing paths can also help eliminate uncut patches.
