To start the Toro Recycler II 18-inch 20181WF Mower, first ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Check that the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is adequate. Pull the safety bar to the handle and then pull the starter rope with a smooth, rapid motion.
To change the oil, start by running the mower for a few minutes to warm up the oil, making it easier to drain. Turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug wire. Tilt the mower and use a wrench to remove the oil drain plug, allowing the old oil to drain into a suitable container. Replace the plug and refill with the recommended oil type.
If the mower doesn't start, check the fuel level and ensure fresh fuel is used. Inspect the spark plug for wear and replace if necessary. Verify that the air filter is clean and does not obstruct air flow. Additionally, ensure the safety bar is engaged when attempting to start.
Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening the blade, and inspecting the spark plug. It's also important to clean the undercarriage and ensure all nuts and bolts are tightened.
To sharpen the blade, first disconnect the spark plug wire and turn the mower on its side. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt and take off the blade. Sharpen the blade with a file or a bench grinder, maintaining the original angle and balance. Reattach the blade securely before using the mower.
Excessive vibration may be caused by a damaged or unbalanced blade. Check the blade for any bends or damage and replace if needed. Ensure the blade is properly balanced and securely mounted. Also, inspect the deck and wheels for any debris that might be causing imbalance.
Before storing the mower for winter, clean the mower thoroughly to remove grass clippings and debris. Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel degradation. Change the oil and remove the spark plug, adding a few drops of oil into the cylinder before replacing it. Store the mower in a dry, covered area.
To clean the air filter, locate the air filter cover and remove it. Take out the air filter and gently tap it to remove any loose dirt. If the filter is excessively dirty, wash it with warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Replace the cover securely.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired position to raise or lower the deck. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
If the mower is not mulching properly, check that the blade is sharp and not damaged. Ensure the deck is clean and free of grass buildup. Confirm that the mulching plug is correctly installed. Also, avoid mowing wet grass as it can hinder the mulching process.
