To start the Toro Recycler 53-cm 20998 Mower, ensure the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is adequate. Prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb three times if the engine is cold. Pull the starter handle firmly to start the engine.
If the mower doesn't start, check the fuel level and ensure fresh gasoline is used. Inspect the spark plug for damage or fouling, and clean or replace it if necessary. Make sure the air filter is clean and the engine oil is at the correct level.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of operation, and then every 50 hours or at the beginning of each mowing season. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance.
The Toro Recycler 53-cm 20998 Mower is designed to run on unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content.
To sharpen the mower blades, disconnect the spark plug, tilt the mower, and remove the blade. Secure the blade in a vice and use a file or grinder to sharpen the cutting edge evenly. Reinstall the blade and ensure it's balanced.
Excessive vibration may be caused by an unbalanced blade or debris lodged under the mower. Check and clean the underside of the deck, and inspect the blade for damage or imbalance. Replace or balance the blade as needed.
Ensure the blade is sharp and properly balanced. Mow when the grass is dry and adjust the cutting height to suit the grass conditions. Regularly clean the underside of the mower deck to prevent buildup.
Check the drive belt for wear and replace it if necessary. Keep the drive system clean and free of debris. Lubricate the wheels and adjust the tension if the self-propel system is not functioning smoothly.
Clean the mower thoroughly, removing any grass clippings and debris. Drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil and remove the spark plug. Store the mower in a dry, protected area.
Uncut patches may result from a dull blade or uneven deck. Sharpen the blade and ensure the deck is level. Mow at a slower pace to allow the mower time to cut all the grass evenly.
