Ensure the mower is on a level surface. Press the primer bulb three times if the engine is cold. Hold the bail handle against the handlebar and pull the starter rope with a quick, steady motion.
Check if there is enough fuel in the tank and that it is fresh. Inspect the spark plug for damage or fouling and clean or replace it if necessary. Ensure the air filter is clean and not clogged.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours of operation or at least once a season. Always use the oil type recommended in your user manual.
Disconnect the spark plug wire. Remove the blade by unscrewing the bolt holding it in place. Sharpen the blade using a file or a bench grinder, ensuring to maintain the original angle. Reinstall the blade securely.
Turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug. Use a garden hose to spray under the deck to remove grass clippings. For stubborn debris, use a plastic scraper.
Check if the wheels are set at the same height. Inspect the blade for damage or dullness and sharpen or replace if necessary. Ensure the deck is clear from grass buildup.
Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil and clean the deck. Remove the spark plug and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder to prevent rust. Store in a dry, sheltered location.
Adjust the cutting height by moving the wheel height adjusters, located at each wheel, to the desired position. Make sure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Check if the blade is balanced and securely attached. Inspect for any debris or damage under the deck. Verify that all fasteners are tight and secure.
Ensure the blade is sharp and the deck is clean. Mow when the grass is dry and avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass height at a time. Use a slower walking speed if necessary.
