Ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Check that the fuel valve is open, the safety key is in place, and the blade control lever is disengaged. Pull the starter rope firmly to start the engine.
Check the fuel level and ensure fresh fuel is used. Verify the spark plug connection, clean or replace the air filter, and make sure the safety interlock switches are engaged.
Locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired position for the cutting height you prefer. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Regularly check the oil level, clean or replace the air filter, inspect the spark plug, and sharpen the blades. Additionally, clean the deck after each use to prevent grass buildup.
Turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a hose to wash away grass clippings and debris. For thorough cleaning, tilt the mower and use a brush or scraper to remove stubborn buildup.
Inspect the blade for damage or balance issues. Check that the blade is securely fastened. If the problem persists, consult a professional for further diagnosis.
Run the engine for a few minutes to warm up the oil. Turn off the engine and remove the spark plug wire. Tilt the mower onto its side and drain the old oil into a container. Refill with the recommended oil type and amount.
Use fresh unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent engine damage.
Ensure the blade is sharp and properly installed. Mow when the grass is dry, and avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass height at a time. Use the highest engine speed for optimal mulching.
Check if the blade is dull or damaged and sharpen or replace it as necessary. Ensure the cutting height is set evenly on all wheels and increase the engine speed if needed.
