To start the Toro Recycler 50-cm 20654 Mower, ensure the fuel valve is open and the engine switch is in the "On" position. Pull the starter handle slowly until resistance is felt, then pull rapidly to start the engine.
If the mower does not start, check if there is enough fuel in the tank, the spark plug is connected properly, and the air filter is clean. Also, ensure the safety handle is engaged while starting.
The oil should be changed after the first 5 hours of operation, and then every 50 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first.
Toro recommends using SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and 10W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C).
To sharpen the blade, disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the blade. Use a file or a grinding wheel to sharpen the blade, ensuring to maintain the original angle. Reinstall the blade securely before using the mower.
If the mower cuts unevenly, check if the wheels are adjusted to the same height and the blade is sharp. Also, ensure the underside of the mower deck is clean and free from grass clippings.
After use, turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a garden hose to rinse the underside of the mower deck, and remove any grass clippings or debris. Dry the mower to prevent rust.
The recommended mowing height is 2.5 to 3.5 inches. Adjust the wheel height accordingly to maintain this range for optimal lawn health.
To improve performance on thick or wet grass, raise the cutting height, mow more frequently, and ensure the blade is sharp. Always mow when the grass is dry to prevent clogging.
For off-season storage, clean the mower thoroughly, change the oil, and remove fuel from the tank. Store the mower in a dry, sheltered area, and cover it to protect from dust and moisture.
