To start the Toro Recycler 22172 mower, first ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Check that the fuel valve is open and the spark plug wire is connected. Pull the starter handle firmly while holding the engine start lever against the handlebar.
The Toro Recycler 22172 mower should use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance. In colder environments, 10W-30 can be used to improve cold starting.
If the mower won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the fuel is fresh, and confirm the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Also, inspect the air filter for clogs and ensure the safety lever is engaged.
To change the blade, disconnect the spark plug wire, tip the mower onto its side with the air filter up, and use a wrench to remove the blade bolt. Replace with a new blade, ensuring it is properly balanced, and tighten the bolt securely.
If the mower is not cutting evenly, check the blade for damage or dullness and sharpen or replace as needed. Also, ensure the wheels are set to the same height and inspect for debris buildup under the deck.
Basic maintenance such as checking the oil level and cleaning the deck should be performed before each use. Change the oil every 25 hours of operation or annually, and replace the air filter and spark plug every season.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the adjustment levers on each wheel and move them to the desired position. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Excessive vibration can be caused by a damaged or unbalanced blade. Check the blade for damage and ensure it is securely attached. If the blade is fine, inspect the mower for loose parts or debris.
After use, allow the mower to cool, then use a brush or cloth to remove grass clippings and debris. Avoid using water directly on the engine to prevent damage. Clean the underside of the deck to prevent buildup.
For off-season storage, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the mower thoroughly and apply oil to metal parts to prevent rust. Store in a dry, covered area.
