To start the Toro Recycler 22170 mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, the choke is engaged, and the blade control bar is held down. Then, pull the starter handle swiftly.
If the mower doesn’t start, check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected, and verify the air filter is clean. Also, ensure that the blade control bar is fully engaged.
To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, then disconnect the spark plug. Tilt the mower on its side and drain the oil into a container. Refill with the recommended oil type and reconnect the spark plug.
Use SAE 30 or 10W-30 motor oil for the Toro Recycler 22170, according to the temperature range you operate in. Consult the owner’s manual for specific recommendations.
Sharpening the blade is recommended at least once per mowing season or more frequently if you notice uneven cutting or damage to the grass.
Excessive vibration may be caused by a damaged blade or loose parts. Check the blade for damage and ensure all bolts and nuts are securely tightened.
To improve cut quality, ensure the blade is sharp and balanced, mow with the deck set at the correct height, and regularly clean the underside of the mower deck to prevent grass buildup.
After use, allow the mower to cool down, then use a garden hose to wash the underside of the deck. Avoid getting water in the engine or other electrical parts. Dry thoroughly before storage.
Ensure the mulching plug is installed correctly, and the blade is sharp. Adjust the mowing speed and height as needed, and avoid mowing when the grass is wet.
For winter storage, clean the mower thoroughly, drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, and remove the battery if applicable. Store in a dry, sheltered area.
