To start the Toro Recycler 21-inch 22296 Mower, ensure the mower is on a flat surface and the blade control bar is disengaged. Pull the starter handle lightly until you feel resistance, then pull quickly to start the engine.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level before each use, changing the oil after the first 5 hours of use and then every 25 hours, cleaning the air filter every 25 hours, and sharpening the blade annually or as needed.
If the mower won't start, check for a full gas tank, ensure the spark plug is connected properly, inspect the air filter for clogs, and make sure the fuel valve is open.
Use SAE 30 or SAE 10W-30 detergent oil with an API service classification of SF, SG, SH, SJ, SL, or higher.
To improve cutting performance, regularly sharpen the blade, mow when the grass is dry, adjust the cutting height appropriately, and mow at a consistent speed.
If the engine runs rough, check the spark plug for wear or damage, clean or replace the air filter, and ensure fresh fuel is used.
Adjust the cutting height by using the height adjustment lever located at each wheel. Move the lever to the desired setting, ensuring all wheels are set to the same height.
To winterize, run the mower until the fuel tank is empty or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, clean the deck, remove the blade and inspect it, and store the mower in a dry place.
To replace the blade, disconnect the spark plug, turn the mower on its side, use a wrench to remove the blade bolt, replace the blade, and tighten the bolt securely.
Check the drive cable for tension and adjust if necessary, inspect the belt for wear or damage, and ensure the drive system is clean and free from debris.
