To start the Toro Recycler 21-inch 22197 mower, ensure the fuel valve is open and the engine switch is in the 'On' position. Press the primer bulb three times if the engine is cold, then pull the starter handle briskly.
Check if there is enough fuel and that the fuel valve is open. Make sure the spark plug is connected and clean. Also, ensure the air filter is not clogged. If these steps don't work, consult the user manual for further troubleshooting.
It is recommended to change the oil after the first 5 hours of use and then every 50 hours of operation or at least once a season.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 10W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always check the user manual for specific recommendations.
To maintain the blade, ensure it is regularly sharpened and balanced. Check for any damage or wear, and replace it if necessary. Always disconnect the spark plug before performing any maintenance on the blade.
After use, disconnect the spark plug and use a hose to wash the underside of the mower deck. Avoid using a pressure washer. Wipe down the mower with a clean cloth and ensure it is dry before storage.
Check the drive belt for wear or damage and ensure it is properly tensioned. Inspect the drive cable for any fraying or disconnection. Adjust or replace components as necessary.
Before storing, clean the mower thoroughly and let it dry. Drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil and remove the spark plug, adding a few drops of oil into the cylinder to prevent rust. Store in a dry place.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced or damaged blade. Check the blade for bends or cracks and ensure it is properly balanced and securely attached. Replace if necessary.
To adjust the cutting height, use the height adjustment levers located on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired position to achieve the preferred cutting height. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height.
