To start the mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, the spark plug is connected, and the blade control bar is engaged. Pull the starter handle firmly to start the engine.
Check the condition of the blade. It may need sharpening or replacement. Also, ensure the mower deck is clean and the wheels are set at an even height.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours of operation or at least once each mowing season.
Use fresh, clean, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
Ensure the blade is sharp and the deck is clean. Mow at a steady pace and avoid cutting wet grass. Adjust the cutting height for optimal performance.
Check the wheel bearings and ensure they are clean and lubricated. Also, inspect the self-propel drive system if equipped, to ensure it is functioning properly.
Drain the fuel tank, change the oil, clean the deck, and remove the spark plug. Store the mower in a dry, covered area.
Use the height adjustment levers located on each wheel. Move the lever to the desired cutting height position for your lawn.
Check the air filter, spark plug, and fuel quality. Clean or replace the air filter, replace the spark plug if necessary, and ensure you are using fresh fuel.
Ensure the engine is off and disconnect the spark plug wire. Tilt the mower, ensuring the air filter side is up, and use a hose to wash away grass clippings and debris.
